We all find ourselves watching a little extra television these days thanks to quarantine mode. So I’m starting a monthly series of television and movie recommendations. If you’re looking for something new to watch, keep reading below.
- The Haunting of Bly Manor (Drama Series)
If you don’t mind a little bit of horror The Haunting of Bly Manor is another series featuring some of the cast members from The Haunting of Hill House. It’s quite engaging and more creepy than horror, following the story of an American woman who takes on a job caring for two orphaned children living in a rich English estate. However, the new nanny quickly realizes the house has some weirdness and the children may be connected to it.
- Unsolved Mysteries (Docuseries)
For all my fellow murder mystery lovers, Unsolved Mysteries may not give you the satisfaction of knowing what happened in the end, so be mentally ready to do your own detective theory. Each episode in this docuseries starts with a new murder mystery case.
- Rust Creek (Movie)
This thriller follows the story of a young college student who sets off on a road trip to attend a job interview in D.C. However, after taking a wrong turn and pulling off on the side of the road, she encounters two outlaws. Soon after she finds herself fighting for survival in the woods. Rotten Tomatoes gives this one a score of over 80% which for a Netflix movie featuring some strong girl power, I will not complain about one bit.
- Ava (Movie)
Following the theme of girl power, this one features Oscar nominated Jessica Chastain, as Ava. Ava is a trained assassin who finds herself questioning her kill jobs and is fighting her own inner demons. This movie also features other big Hollywood names like Colin Farrell, Common, and John Malkovich.
Movies on Demand
Russell Crowe plays the part of a road raged lunatic who targets a single mom after a confrontation at an intersection. Ratings were low on Rotten Tomatoes (rightfully so given how high my blood pressure went during this) but for another fight or flight themed thriller it’s sufficient.
- Buddy Games
This one wasn’t up my ally but probably would be enjoyed by those who are into more crude comedy. Parents beware of watching with your teenager given all the adult themed graphic content. This movie stars Josh Duhamel, Olivia Munn, Dax Shepard, and Kevin Dillon to name a few and follows the story of a group of friends who are always playing ridiculous mental and physical challenges also known as the “Buddy Games” and get together for one more championship.
Let me know what you end up watching from my December roundup and how you would score it!
